Weed Abatement

The process of weed abatement helps manage the spread of fires in open grass areas. Inspections are done by personnel during the dry months – May through November. Once inspected, property owners may be notified of the requirement to create firebreaks in their land. Property owners are required to maintain their properties. By doing so, in the event of a field fire, the SPFD may be able to contain a fire more quickly. If a property is found to be non-compliant a Notice to Abate hazard will be issued.
